Rita was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Brooklyn to Anna and Samuel Berman. She later lived in Doylestown, PA, and Ann Arbor, MI, before moving to Syracuse in August, 2008. She quickly made friends in her new home at the Bishop Ludden Apartments and became an active member of the Oasis Chorus and the Note-a-Belles, a women's vocal ensemble directed by Louise Sollecito. Rita was an avid amateur singer throughout her life, and earned frequent standing ovations for her expressive and sensitive vocal delivery during her time at Oasis during their year-end concerts this year and last. Rita was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Aaron and Seymour Berman; and her husband, Lawrence. She is survived by sons David Abrams of Camillus and Stanley Abrams of Port Chester, and her devoted daughter-in-law, Cheryl Abrams. Also surviving: sister-in-law, Estelle Berman; several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime friends, Vivian Alpert and Terry Singer; many dear friends from Ann Arbor; her kind neighbors at Bishop Ludden Apts.; and colleagues in the Oasis Chorus and the Note-a-Belles, in particular her close friend and inseparable partner in music, Santa Ludwig. Rita also enjoyed spending time with her beloved mini schnauzer grand-dog, Teddy. Rita would wish to thank those who greatly enhanced the quality of her life in Syracuse: Kevin and Selma Moore; Phil and Robin Klein; Linda Rosenberg and Robin Sisskind; Louise Sollecito and Linda Williams; Bonnie Parker, Dennis Bell Jr., dentist V. Stephen Nardozza and her Crouse Hospital affiliated physicians for their exceptional preventive care. The family wishes to thank the Crouse Emergency Room staff and the Upstate Neurological Unit physicians and, especially, the nurses for their skilled, compassionate care. According to her wishes, Rita's body has been gifted to Upstate Medical University's Anatomical Lab. A Service of Friendship & Thanks for her dear neighbors will be hosted by her children at Bishop Ludden Apt.'s Community Room on Monday, June 21 at 7 p.m. Family and other friends are invited to a Celebration of Life reception and brief ceremony on Tuesday, June 22, 5 to 7 p.m., at Inn of the Seasons, 4311 West Seneca Tnpk.
